Being a Mentor

Purpose!

To reveal significance and purpose in the lives of youth while inspiring transformation through relationships founded on trust, acceptance and modeling.

Who are the Mentees?

For the most part, the Mentees are youth between the ages of 8 and 18 who we have gotten to know through the various programs of Youth Unlimited (although they may be referred).

Who can be a Mentor?

We are looking for men and women between the ages of 20 and 100 who have a desire to see youth reach their potential as God created it! It's really that simple! If you have a heart that wants to care for, and pour into, a young person then you probably have what it takes...there is no ONE type of Mentor.

What do we offer the Mentors?

1. A Mentee matched according to similar interests/hobbies/needs.
2. Initial Mentor Training workshop.
3. Ongoing training workshops throughout the calendar year.
4. Ongoing match support with a Match Supervisor.
5. Organized Mentor/Mentee Group Get-Togethers/Workshops.
6. Links to community supports and resources.

About the Program!

When together, Mentors and Mentees spend time (about 1-2 hours per week) hanging out. You might play sports, check out a movie or decide on some other fun activity to do.

So...What's next?

Call Youth Unlimited at 743.2900 or email Sherri at sherri@youthunlimitedkaw.com to arrange an interview time with the coordinator. Complete and return any necessary forms and police checks. You will also have to attend the Mentor training and orientation. Pretty simple, eh!
